Forest Whitaker – The Last King of Scotland
The Last King of Scotland is a movie which depicts the life and rules of Uganda’s Idi Amin. The movie, released in 2006, starred Forest Whitaker who saw himself as “the hero of Africa” and the liberator of the oppressed.
Based on Giles Forden’s novel, the movie received criticisms, as well as, positive recognition. The title comes from Amin’s official claim to be the last uncrowned King of Scotland.
In 1977, he proclaimed himself, “His excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji, Doctor Idi Amin, VS, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular.”
