The automobile industry is crucial to the economy of any country. It is one of the biggest and most extensive aspects of modern industrial manufacturing. The effect of activities in the sector could make or break the economy of any country because the industry is one of the biggest employers and drivers of technology.

In the years following independence, a number of African nations ventured into the production of locally made cars. Sadly, most of those early efforts suffered an unfortunate collapse mainly due to poor designs, government involvement, and poor business models.

While several countries may have gotten along in succeeding years by churning out Asian and European cars models from vehicle assembly plants, a number of African entrepreneurs have in recent times taken things several steps further by establishing manufacturing plants where they design, produce, and assemble authentically African automobiles.
