Mauritius

Mauritius is an East African island country known for its beaches, reefs and lagoons. Clean beaches and beautiful sunsets are not all the country offers. The island offers the beach experience alongside a tropical rainforest experience, with its mountainous interior, including Black River Gorges National Park with rainforests, waterfalls and hiking trails. The wildlife on the island is most peculiar to only it, just like neighbouring Seychelles and includes rare wildlife like the flying fox and the rare pink pigeon at the Île aux Aigrettes Nature Reserve.

In the north of the country, the villages of Grand Baie and Flic-en-Flac have world-class beach resorts, luxury hotels and coral diving caves where visitors engage in snorkelling and game fishing. Neighbouring Tamarin Bay is a hotspot for surfers, with huge waves all year round.

The history of the island nation is also available to visitors in the ruins of Dutch fortifications at Vieux Grand Port and the Mahébourg market which has stands serving the island’s distinctive food, with Creole, Chinese, Indian and European influences.
