Marion Jones – Athlete
American athlete Marion Jones shot to international fame while in college as she dominated the sprint events. Born in the U.S. to a Belizean mother, she became one of the most celebrated athletes of the 19th century.
She excelled at her first major competition, winning the 100 m sprint at the 1997 World Championships in Athens while finishing 10th in the long jump. She won three gold medals (100 and 200-meter sprint, and 4x400m relay) and two bronze medals (long jump and 4x100m relay). However, she was stripped of her medals after she confessed to taking a banned substance in 2007.
She holds dual citizenship with the United States and Belize.
