Waragi

Waragi or enguli refers to a plethora of distilled beverages made in Uganda. There is also commercially produced Waragi gin called Uganda Waragi that is made and distributed by East African Breweries Limited.

Waragi was formulated as a protest to the 1960 liquor act imposed by colonial British in Uganda.

The local brew is made with cassava, bananas, millet or sugar cane.

Kasese-Kasese and Lira-Lira are two variations of waragi that have unique scents and tastes from one another.
