Letitia Wright
Being a cast member of Black Panther can be summed up to be an exhilarating experience. It can also be used as a platform to spread knowledge about other pertinent topics affecting the black community; which is what Letitia Wright has done.
Wright, who played tech guru “Shuri” in Black Panther, once became so overwhelmed with depressive moods that she took a break from acting.
“In the Black community, it’s something that happens, but we don’t speak about it,” she said. “We have to continue to talk about it and bring it straight to the forefront. And [that doesn’t only apply to] the Black community, but different races as well,” Wright iterated.
Apart from being an actress, Wright serves as an advocate for black women battling depression and seeks to find the reasons why Black women don’t get help.
“I speak boldly about [depression] because I struggled with it and I tried to find different ways [to heal], and it just didn’t work, I had to look deeper to find what could hold me, and I found that what held me together was my relationship with Jesus and my relationship with God.”
