Himilco
Himilco was a Carthaginian navigator and explorer who lived during the height of Carthaginian power in the late 6th century BC. He is known to be the first explorer from the Mediterranean Sea to reach the northwestern shores of Europe. Most accounts of his adventures have been lost, however, historian Johann Martin Lappenberg argued that Himilco, a Carthaginian who was native to the ancient north African city of Carthage, likely travelled to the islands of Albion and Ierne, or ancient Great Britain and Ireland. According to Roman authors, he also reached Oestriminis (now Portugal) for trade.
