Salting

Salting food involves preserving food by adding dry salt to it.

The high salt content kills bacteria, fungi and additional pathogens that can be harmful to humans when ingested.  In addition, it slows down the decaying process.

Meat and fish are the items typically salted for a longer shelf life.
