Khadija is the first winner of the Graywolf Press Africa Prize. Her novel, House of Rust, was selected from 200 manuscript submissions. She will not only receive $12,000 in advance but also be published by 66th&2nd .

Khadija Abdalla Bajaber has infused new life into the age-old story of adventure on the high seas—with this heroic first novel she has struck deep into that mythic realm explored by everyone from Homer to Hemingway,” said Igoni Barrett who was the Prize’s judge.
