Diriyam by Khadija Qalanjo
In 2016, a cover of her hit song Diriyam was made by the Ethiopian Jano Band. Qalanjo, who is also the first Miss Somalia, modernized the Somali folk song tradition known as dhaanto, as she introduced instrumentation into the genre in the 1970s and 1980s. Currently living in London, her songs usually touched on love lost and regained. Her hit songs include Caashaqa Sal iyo Baar, Ragga iyo Haweenkuba, Deesha and Sharaf.
