Sources have revealed how Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, plans to handle his connection to Sean “Diddy” Combs amidst mounting legal battles, including rape allegations.
The claims emerge after Carter, 55, was named in a civil lawsuit alleging he and Combs raped a 13-year-old girl following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Jay-Z has strongly denied the allegations, with his attorney Alex Spiro asserting the rapper and Combs share only a professional relationship.
Insiders have told Daily Mail that Carter is determined to avoid any implication in the lawsuit, reportedly willing to prioritize his own interests over his longtime association with Combs.
“Jay-Z would absolutely throw Diddy under the bus if that is what it took to clear his name,” an insider said. “He has zero loyalty to Diddy.”
According to the source, Jay-Z began distancing himself from Combs after the latter was arrested earlier this year on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The insider emphasized that Carter’s priority is safeguarding his family and avoiding incarceration, describing him as “extremely powerful and willing to deploy any tactic necessary.”

Carter’s legal team has also filed motions to have him removed from the lawsuit, citing inconsistencies in the accuser’s story. In a recent interview with NBC, the accuser admitted to some errors in her account, acknowledging she may have been mistaken about key details.
Despite these moves, another source claims Carter’s actions are unrelated to helping Combs. “Jay-Z is focused solely on clearing his own name. He doesn’t care about Diddy or his lawsuits,” the source stated.
Carter reportedly decided to sever ties with Combs after seeing footage of Combs physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. “Jay was appalled by the Cassie video, which solidified his decision to publicly distance himself from Diddy,” the insider explained.
Meanwhile, Combs, who is currently incarcerated and awaiting trial, has denied the allegations. However, insiders suggest he takes comfort in Carter’s legal battles with the same accuser, believing a victory for Carter could benefit his own case.
“Diddy is glad that Jay-Z is fighting the accuser, as any progress made by Carter’s legal team could reflect positively on him,” a source noted.
The lawsuit against Carter and Combs, filed under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act, alleges a series of disturbing events at the 2000 VMAs afterparty, including drugging and sexual assault. Both Carter and Combs have vehemently denied the allegations, pointing to timeline discrepancies and a lack of corroborating evidence.
Carter’s team has dismissed the accuser’s claims as unreliable and accused her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, of extortion. In turn, Buzbee has denied any wrongdoing, labeling the countersuit a “silly sideshow” intended to distract from the allegations.
The legal battles continue to unfold, with both sides facing intense scrutiny in the public and legal arenas.
