Before its “discovery”, Saint Kitts was previously known as “Liamuiga” meaning “fertile land” and was originally inhabited by the Kalinago. Also known as the Island Caribs, the Kalinago apparently are descendants of the Mainland Caribs (Kalina) of South America.
