Mauritius

Mauritius‘ earnings have come from the country’s fame as a tax haven for corporations and rich people, as well as tourism. In spite of this, the island on the Indian Ocean finds it hard to distribute its wealth more effectively.

According to the World Bank, the gap between the incomes of Mauritius’ poorest and the richest households increased by 37 percent from 2001 to 2015.

The prosperity of the last two decades has disproportionately gone the way of only 1 in 10 Mauritians.
