Late American singer, actress and model Aaliyah Dana Haughton has been honored posthumously with her very own Barbie doll by Mattel.
The doll, released on Thursday, January 16, coinciding with what would have been Aaliyah’s 46th birthday, is the latest addition to the “Barbie Music Collector Series.” It celebrates the “Princess of R&B” and her enduring legacy.
The design of the Aaliyah Barbie draws inspiration from her iconic look in the “One in a Million” music video, according to a report. It features her signature all-black faux leather outfit, complete with a lace-up and zippered vest, black shades, and her distinctive swooped hairstyle partially covering her left eye.

Mattel collaborated with Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, to ensure the doll authentically captured her essence and style.
Reflecting on the honor, Rashad shared, “I can vividly remember my sister playing with her favorite Barbie dolls for hours as a child. She would make them sing, dance, and perform little concerts. It’s clear to me now that she was imagining dreams that would eventually become reality when she began her career in entertainment at just fifteen.”
He added, “Inspiring confidence, belief in yourself, and embracing who you truly are is the essence of Barbie. My sister would be ecstatic to see her legacy celebrated in such a meaningful way.”

Aaliyah, who burst onto the music scene in 1994 with her debut single “Back & Forth,” went on to achieve remarkable success, earning three American Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and five Grammy nominations over her career.
Her addition to the Barbie Music Collector Series places her alongside other influential figures like Gloria Estefan, Zendaya and Brandy.
Krista Berger, SVP of Barbie and global head of dolls at Mattel, expressed, “We hope the Aaliyah Barbie serves as a powerful reminder to her loyal fans and Barbie collectors everywhere that, like Aaliyah, they can unlock their limitless potential and achieve anything they set their minds to.”
