Rakim Mayers, better known as A$AP Rocky, was arrested Wednesday at the Los Angeles airport in connection with a November 2021 shooting, according to a statement by the Los Angeles Police Department.

The rapper, who was named as a suspect in the shooting, was coming back from a trip in Barbados with his girlfriend Rihanna when officers detained him at the Los Angeles International Airport before arresting him for “assault with a deadly weapon.”

“Early this morning, LAPD officers arrested Mayers for assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) at the Los Angeles International Airport. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in its statement.

A$AP Rocky had been under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department for a November 6 shooting near Vista Del Mar and Selma Ave. around 10:20 pm, NBC News reported. According to the shooting victim, the rapper was walking with two others when he approached him with a handgun on the street. The victim told the police that A$AP Rocky shot at him three to four times, adding that one of the bullets grazed his left hand.

This is not the first time that A$AP Rocky is facing legal trouble. The 33-year-old rapper was detained in Sweden in 2019 after a street fight. During the trial, he claimed self-defense, saying that two men were harassing his entourage. He was convicted of assault, given a suspended prison sentence, and was ordered to pay a fine of $1,307.
