Burundi:  blocked mobile social media amid protests aimed at stopping President Pierre Nkurunziza’s third-term bid.

The Gambia: shut down the internet and international calls ahead f the November 2016 elections.

Gabon: in 2016, shut down the internet following the announcement that president Ali Bongo was re-elected for a second seven-year term.

Somalia, Algeria, Egypt, Uganda, Congo and Ghana have also shut down the internet.
