Flag of South Africa: Talk of “the Rainbow Nation” and South Africa’s national flag says it all! Adopted in April 1994, the 22-year-old South African flag remains one of the most-colorful flags in the world. Designed with the political aim of strengthening unity among the Black majority and White minority after having suffered the evils of Apartheid, the colors of the South African flag were carefully selected to represent a deep identity. The red, white, and blue colors were adopted from the Boer Republics while the rest were taken from the anti-Apartheid political party the African National Congress (ANC). The Black represents the people of South Africa, green the fertility of South Africa’s land, and gold the richness of the country in mineral wealth.
