Barack and Michelle Obama are straight up couple goals and they’re testament to the fact that love isn’t and shouldn’t be that complicated.
27 years down the line with two lovely daughters and still going strong, the inseparable power couple, through thick and thin, have always been each other’s number one fan.
Opening up on O Magazine about the first time he met Michelle, Barack wrote:
“I met Michelle in 1989, after my first year of law school, when I took a summer job at Sidley & Austin, a law firm in Chicago. A year earlier I had been working as a community organizer in some of Chicago’s poorest neighborhoods, and I struggled with the decision to go to a large firm. But with student loans mounting, the three months of salary they offered wasn’t something I could pass up.
“Michelle worked at Sidley, too, and, in the luckiest break of my life, was assigned to be my adviser, charged with helping me learn the ropes. I remember being struck by how tall and beautiful she was.”
Though they struck up a relationship, Barack did not have it easy getting Michelle to accept his offer of taking her out on a date as she kept refusing. She, however, caved in when he decided to be a bit “witty.”
“I’m your adviser,” she said about the date offer. “It’s not appropriate.”
“Finally, I offered to quit my job, and at last she relented,” Barack said.
About their unforgettable first date, he said: “I treated her to the finest ice cream Baskin-Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb. I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate.”
The rest is history.
A plaque has even been mounted at the location they shared their first kiss in Chicago.
