You can’t talk about mainstream hip-hop in the mid-2000s without mentioning Curtis Jackson a.k.a. 50 Cent.

Even though the New York rapper’s career has had its share of controversies, we can all agree that he has been one of the most consistent and commercially successful rappers over the last two decades.

His debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, topped the Billboard charts for several weeks after its release in 2003 and its lead single, In Da Club, became an instant hit, peaking at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. Hate him or love him, we can all agree that album is a masterpiece and it never gets old.

The album’s success paved the way for 50 Cent and his G-Unit group to become a brand, delving into merchandise, video games, movies, among others. His subsequent albums, though not as commercially successful as his debut, are also critically acclaimed.

As the rapper celebrates his 45th birthday today, let’s take a trip down memory lane and look back at some of his greatest hits. Enjoy!
