Broadway star and singer Melba Moore, at the age of 77, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking a significant achievement in her career. This honor came around six decades after she initially entered the entertainment industry, with comedian Katt Williams playing a role in making this milestone possible.
Williams is being lauded by fans on social media after it was disclosed that he covered the expenses to secure Moore’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. To earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a celebrity needs to demonstrate their lasting impact in one of six categories and secure a nomination supported by their management. Once approved by the Walk of Fame committee, the celebrity pays a fee of $75,000 for the creation, installation, and upkeep of the star’s terrazzo and brass tile.
Following the ceremony on August 10, Moore shared that Williams played a crucial role in helping her attain the highly esteemed Hollywood Walk of Fame star single-handedly. Williams sponsored her star in the Live Theatre/Live Performance category, leading Moore to express her gratitude on Instagram.
Williams also praised Moore’s legacy in his speech, recognizing her achievements on stage, television, music, and film. Moore’s accomplishments include a Tony Award win for Broadway’s “Purlie,” four Grammy nominations, and roles in various on-screen projects.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony was attended by comedians Deon Cole and Lunelle, as well as renowned music producer Jimmy Jam. Alongside the congratulations for Moore, there was a surge of admiration for Williams for his generous act. Many lauded Williams as a king recognizing a queen and praised him as a national treasure and a champion for his actions.
Fans have continued to express their admiration for Williams’ gesture. One person praised the act as one legend ensuring the enduring legacy of another, while another person wasn’t surprised, citing Williams’ history of compassionate actions, including adopting multiple children. A 2011 BET report confirmed Williams has one biological child, Micah, and has adopted seven more children. Despite his public profile, he has protected his children from public scrutiny and the spotlight.
