Oscar winner Denzel Washington decided to take a huge step in his faith by getting baptized and receiving his minister’s license on Saturday.

The legendary actor was baptized at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in New York City and has received loads of support and love from fans for his new spiritual journey.

Washington was dressed in a white robe and burgundy stole adorned with crosses, and had his head low for most aspects of the ceremony as spiritual leaders placed him into the water to be baptized.

He was pictured standing with his certificate of baptism and also received his ministry license, which would now hand him the ability to perform ministerial duties.

The movie icon was presented with his new certificates and his minister told the crowd that Washington was being recognized as “a member of the clergy of the Churches of God in Christ Worldwide.”

Denzel’s wife of 41 years, Pauletta Washington, was in the crowd to support the actor as he embarked on this new spiritual journey.

She was seen filming major aspects of the ceremony from her front row seat in the congregation.

Denzel is not the first celebrity to undergo a later-in-life baptism as he has now joined the likes of Justin Bieber, Kat Von D, Demi Lovato and many others.

All of these stars reaffirmed their faith by taking the spiritual exercise to usher themselves into a new chapter.

Pauletta Washington touched on how proud she was of her husband who took a big step in his religious journey, and said it is simply a proud moment.

“Forty-six years later, here I’m still standing next to him as only God will have it,” she reportedly said as her husband sat on the steps of the pulpit and wiped away his tears.

“So, I’m very proud of you. You are the head of our house and you have set a great example for our children, who are now adult children who know the difference because we have shown them the difference.”
