Diddy has denied sharing a social media post where he appeared to insinuate Burna Boy did not win any award at this year’s Grammys because the Nigerian musician did not involve him in the album that earned him the nominations.
In case you forgot or did not know, the renowned American business and music mogul was a co-executive producer for Burna Boy’s Twice as Tall album. The 2020 project was nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 2021 Grammys. The Nigerian musician eventually took home the award, making it his first-ever Grammy win.
And though Burna Boy’s recent album, Love, Damini, was also nominated in the same category for the 2023 Grammys, the 31-year-old lost the award to Masa Takumi’s Sakura. But that wasn’t his only loss of the night. His hit single, Last Last, also lost in the Best Global Music Performance category. That award went to South African trio Zakes Bantwini, Nomcebo Zikode, and Wouter Kellerman.
Following the event, an Instagram post that was allegedly shared by Diddy appeared to throw shade at Burna Boy, HOT 97 reported. The post in question said, “I helped you win your first and only Grammy award, which I did out of kindness, and somehow you thought you could win another without my help? Oh okay.”
But the 53-year-old later took to Instagram to deny sharing the aforementioned post, saying it was “fake.” Some social media users also questioned the authenticity of the initial post. “The whole Africa about to drag Diddy over Burna Boy,” someone tweeted.
“Nope! Diddy never posted it. It’s a certain fanbase that created the fake screenshot. They do it all the time. Davido used to be the victim of their online misinformation schemes. Now it’s Burna Boy,” another person said before adding, “Just think about it… why would Diddy even post that?”
