Rapper and filmmaker Donald Glover has confirmed that Malia Obama will be in the writers’ room for his new series on Amazon. In an interview with Variety, the Emmy winner and Atlanta actor said the 23-year-old is “an amazingly talented person,” adding that she is “really focused” and “working really hard.”

“I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon,” Glover, 38, said. “Her writing style is great.”

Last year, Face2Face Africa reported Glover had tapped Malia to help write new a “Beyoncé-like” series for Amazon. Her involvement in the upcoming series came after Glover signed a multiple, eight-figure production deal with the streaming giant after parting ways with Disney platform FX. But Glover did not reveal any details about Malia’s involvement in the upcoming project at the time.

Glover’s brother and frequent collaborator, Stephen Glover, is also helping with the upcoming series’ development. He also shared more details on why they offered Malia a role in the project.

“Donald always says perspective is important, and people with different perspectives are important for a writers’ room,” he said. “And for sure, [Malia] definitely has a unique perspective on everything. So we wanted to hear her stories and have her work with us. Listening to her stories and having her involved really gave us a lot of good ideas.”

Malia’s first major entertainment gig comes after a string of internships on notable projects including HBO’s comedy series, Girls. Glover will also team up with Watchmen writer Janine Nabers to produce the series.
