Authorities in Canada said a man identified as Drake’s security guard was left seriously injured after he was shot outside the rapper’s Toronto sprawling mansion. Per CNN, Toronto Police Inspector Paul Krawczyk at a press conference said police responded to the home in the early hours of Tuesday.
Authorities said the security guard in question was stationed outside the For All the Dogs rapper’s gate when he was shot. He has since been admitted to the hospital, and his condition has been listed as serious.
Krawczyk did not confirm whether or not Drake was at home when the shooting happened. An investigation into the shooting has since been launched, and Krawczyk said the rapper’s team is cooperating with authorities.
A police source who spoke with CBC News also said previous reports indicate the shooting was a drive-by. And though Krawczyk said a vehicle was linked to the incident, he did not confirm if it was a drive-by shooting.
A neighbor who spoke with the news outlet also said he was just about sleeping when he heard multiple gunshots. He said a car was subsequently heard driving away.
“I thought I was dreaming,” the neighbor, identified as Richie Lai, said. “I didn’t know if I’d heard what I’d heard, and then, maybe five or ten minutes later, I heard [ambulance] sirens.”
The shooting also comes amidst an ongoing feud between Drake and fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar. The pair have exchanged diss tracks over the last few weeks. Krawczyk said authorities were yet to establish the motive behind the shooting when he was asked if the incident was linked to their feud, CNN reported.
Krawczyk also said multiple suspects were linked to the shooting, adding that they drove away in the wake of the incident. He said a video of the shooting is being reviewed by authorities.
