Tory Lanez, the Canadian rapper and singer whose real name is Daystar Peterson, has reportedly been stabbed while serving his prison sentence.
The incident is said to have taken place early Monday morning, May 12. TMZ broke the news, revealing that the 32-year-old was urgently transported to a hospital near Bakersfield, California, to receive medical attention for his injuries.
Sources say Lanez was in the yard at California Correctional Institution when the violent attack occurred. While the motive behind the stabbing remains unclear, it has been confirmed that the wounds are not considered life-threatening.
Just days before the reported attack, Lanez had posted a photo from behind bars, appearing alongside fellow inmates. He also took the opportunity to tease a new musical venture, promising fans a summer release.

Further elaborating on his creative direction, he added: “ALONE AT PROM + MIAMI BASS + ALVIN AND THE MONK$ + SLUTTY DARK RNB VIBES = SLUTTY BASS COMING THIS SUMMER.”
On the same day, Lanez also released “Lotta Money Ave (Lost Tapes 2017)” to streaming platforms as a surprise offering for fans.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence, handed down in August 2023, following his conviction on three felony charges related to the July 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion during a dispute outside a Hollywood Hills party.
Prosecutors stated that during an argument, Megan exited the vehicle and began to walk away when Lanez yelled, “Dance, bitch!”, and fired several shots at her feet. He was formally charged in October 2022.
In a later court appearance, Megan requested a restraining order, which was granted in January. “I want my restraining order because I haven’t been at peace since I [was] shot,” she said during her video testimony. “I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again, and maybe this time I won’t make it.”

More recently, Lanez came under legal fire once again. In April, Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team asked the court to hold him in contempt over his “disruptive” conduct during a civil case deposition. They claimed his behavior was so egregious that the deposition had to be halted prematurely.
“Mr. Peterson made a mockery of the proceedings,” her attorneys wrote. “Nothing short of a contempt finding and meaningful sanctions will deter Mr. Peterson from continuing to abuse the process.”
That civil lawsuit, filed in late 2024 by Megan, targets social media figure Milagro Gramz (real name Milagro Cooper). Megan alleges that Gramz and Lanez orchestrated a deliberate scheme to “defame and delegitimize” her in the aftermath of the shooting and ensuing criminal trial.
