Former basketball player, Dwayne Wade, has come to the defence of his son over social media backlash brought about by tweeters who found a problem with his female clothing.

The former Miami Heat star took to Twitter with some harsh words, describing the criticisms as stupid.

Wade tweeted on Saturday: “I’ve seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is apart of this world we live in—so i get it. But here’s the thing—I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!”

The photo was attached to the Wade family’s Thanksgiving wishes posted on the Instagram page of his wife, actress Gabrielle Union.

Soon after it went up, people took notice of Wade’s son, Zion’s clothing which looked like a crop-top. Apart from the clothing, Zion also wore white artificial nails.

Although it is not a confirmation he owes to the general public, Zion, 12, is suspected as identifying as queer.

Earlier, this year, he followed his stepmom Union to a pride parade in Miami Beach.

When Wade was asked if his son identified with one of the identities in the LGBT spectrum, he said it was only “his job to be a father” but his son’s story to tell.
