Throwing Shade

To throw shade is to make up an innuendo or insinuation which serves to hit your intended target in a preferably indirect way. However, if a listener knows of what you speak, they can infer who your target is.

Most often, the expression is used in the sense of what one means when they say “if you live in a glasshouse, don’t throw stones.”
