Beatrix Johnson (Cuba)
Beatrix Johnson was recently appointed as one of Cuba’s five vice president’s. She is also two of three Afro-Cubans’s bestowed with the position. The other female vice-president is Ines Maria Chapman.
The island has deep-seated issues in colorism and racism as many Afro-Cubans refuse to identify as black, even though the census clearly rounds the population at 90 percent.
Johnson is the former director of a joint-venture cement plant who earned the position of head of the provincial government.
