Binyavanga Wainaina

Binyavanga Wainaina was an author and journalist, who made it to the TIME 100 list by Time Magazine as one of the ‘Most Influential People in the World’ in 2014. He was born in 1971 and was a recipient of the Caine Prize for African Writing.

It was his essay, How to Write About Africa that put him on the map to which he wrote a sequel, ‘How to Write About Africa II.

In 2011 his autobiography, One Day I Will Write About This Place: A Memoir was published by Graywolf Press. He was also an activist for gay rights. He died in May 2019 after a short illness.
