DuSable Museum of African American History
This museum was named after the first black settler in Chicago Jean Baptiste Point DuSable who is of Hatian descent. In 1779, he “established the trading post and permanent settlement which would become known as Chicago.”
The museum has been celebrating African Americans and their heritage for more than 55 years and still revels their history of African American culture with its huge collection of arts and historical artifacts. There are exhibits, programs and lectures held occasionally at this South Side museum.
