South Side Community Art Center

The South Side Community Art Center in Bronzeville  founded in 1940 is the oldest African American arts center in the United States. Since its opening, it “continues to cultivate artists’ careers through exhibitions, community programming, public events and classes” and often gives the platform to local artists by putting their work out there.

Famous black creators like Gwendolyn Brooks and Gordon Parks owe their careers to this center.
