A viral video that was shared on social media shows a Jacksonville sheriff’s deputy mistakenly tasing a colleague as they attempt to arrest a male suspect following a traffic stop. On Tuesday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) provided details about what unfolded, News4JAX reported.

The arrest report stated that the incident occurred on Saturday night after an officer pulled 29-year-old Kheilan Haynes over for allegedly jumping a red light. After Haynes stopped at a gas station, the officer who executed the traffic stop requested for backup.

After instructing Haynes to exit this vehicle, the officer said he managed to handcuff the suspect’s left wrist. But the incident escalated afterward.

In the video, Haynes is seen struggling with two officers on the ground, with authorities saying that the suspect refused to comply. One of the officers is seen deploying a taser on Haynes, but JSO said it was ineffective. The officer is seen discharging the taser again after Haynes gets up, but it misses the suspect and rather strikes the other officer.

That officer is seen falling on the ground, and Haynes takes to his heels. The JSO said that Haynes was ultimately arrested after they successfully subdued him with a taser. The 29-year-old suspect faces a slew of charges including resisting an officer without violence, possession of fentanyl, and possession of not more than 20 grams of marijuana.

Haynes was still in custody on Tuesday, and his bond was set at $512,000, News4JAX reported. He is scheduled to appear before court on August 15.

“The incident is unfortunate, but in the heat of the moment is always a potential while we are taking combative subjects into custody. Incidents such as this are always reviewed to ensure we are using the most appropriate techniques and force during an apprehension – this case is in this process as we speak,” a JSO spokesman said.
