Ryan Shazier is a former linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes and was selected by the Steelers in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
The ex-linebacker has had a quiet life after quitting the NFL but he is now in the news over his marriage. According to the New York Post, he has filed for divorce from his wife of nearly five years, Michelle. The platform noted that the news comes months after Michelle accused the professional athlete of cheating.
The Post said the divorce was fueled by Michelle’s decision to make their marital woes public and exposing text messages allegedly between her husband and another woman last November. The text, which has since been deleted, with the proposed mistress, Marie, was about Shazier sending her books to guide one on sexual acts.
“A person that loves his family … this is what they do to their family … the WIFE.. that has been there for him since day 1,” Michelle relayed to her followers on Instagram. “Infidelity at its finest! I can’t sit here and keep hiding anymore. You can have it. I deserve better. This is Ryan… he’s a liar and a cheater!”
The two originally married in 2019 before they called it quits, according to the Post. They tied the knot nearly two years after the former NFL star suffered an on-field spinal injury that left him temporarily paralyzed. He subsequently underwent spine stabilization surgery on December 6, 2017. He quit the NFL on September 9, 2020, due to the injury.
“Michelle and I have been living apart and are currently separated,” Shazier told TMZ shortly after the site broke the details of his alleged affair. “As we work through what comes next for our family, I ask for privacy and prayers.”
Meanwhile, the couple share a 4-year-old son, Lyon while Shazier has a 9-year-old son, RJ, from a previous relationship.
