Anielle Franco

Anielle is currently Brazil’s Racial Equality Minister. The competitive volleyball player and English teacher switched to full-time activism after her sister Marielle – a passionate and vibrant civil rights activist campaigner for Blacks and LGBTQ communities in Brazil, was assassinated in 2018. The search for justice brought Anielle, then 33, into the national spotlight. Anielle launched a non-profit in her sister’s name. Anielle is one of the leading voices in Brazil’s Black rights movement.
