Hakim Jamal
Jamal, a cousin of Malcolm X, was a vocal civil rights activist in the 1960s. A spokesperson for the Nation of Islam, Jamal was actually not afraid to criticise the organisation’s leader, Elijah Muhammad, in public.
After his cousin’s death, Jamal joined other groups to foster African-American unity. His effectiveness and numerous affairs made him a target of the FBI and envy of other activists.
In 1973, he was shot to death over a power struggle in the Black Power movement.
