His real name was not Akhenaten

Akhenaten means “useful to Aten” or “effective for Aten”. The pharaoh took on a name that made him the chief evangelist of his god.

But this was even later in his life because even half a decade into his reign, Akhenaten maintained his real name, Amenhotep.

Amenhotep meant “Amun is satisfied”, a reference to another god but this one, a favourite of the people.
