Pompey Square

It is now a social hub for art shows, festivals, lounging, and a great atmosphere for kids to explore but it did not start out so. In the 1700s, the Pompey square was the place to purchase African slaves. Named after a staunch African freedom fighter, Pompey, enslaved Africans were auctioned at the marketplace.
