House in Yelwa, Nigeria made of plastic bottles, sand and mud…Pinterest

House made out of plastic

In 2011, a house in Yelwa, Nigeria became a major tourist attraction because of a house built solely using plastic bottles.

The home was built with sand-filled bottles which were then placed on their side, one on top of the other and then compacted with mud.

The plastic was sought from hotels, restaurants, homes and foreign embassies.

Yahaya Ahmed of Nigeria’s Development Association for Renewable Energies estimated that plastic homes were more durable and cost one-third of the cost of erecting a conventional brick and mud home.
