Just recently, 19-year-old Sudanese Australian model, Adut Akech made headlines as the 2018 model of the year beating Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid and 2017 winner Ghanaian-British model Adwoah Aboah.
Akech was not the only black model that won a title in models.com awards. Rihanna made the list as the 2018 Celebrity Model of the Year.
This is seen as a milestone not only for Akech but also for the black community, which continues to push for diversity in all industries, especially fashion and entertainment that have a great influence on society.
Thanks to the celebration around Akech’s win, which has set the stage for her for 2019, Face2Face Africa did a little more digging to find out which other black models are breaking barriers in fashion.
