A young South African woman in Ga-Rankuwa township near Pretoria is seeking justice after another woman who accused her of sleeping with her husband forced her to strip naked and do house chores as punishment while filming.

The video which circulated on social media after the incident occurred on Jan. 6 showed the unnamed young woman who is in her early 20s scrubbing the yard of a house and later stripped naked to stomp a blanket in a basin while being threatened by the accuser in the background.

The victim was forced to say in the video that she’s a home-wrecker who sleeps around with married men who have kids. The angry wife was also heard saying: “You want to be the woman of this house? Then do the chores as a wife. I want these blankets clean.”

According to some sympathisers on social media, the young woman was threatened with death by the wife.

The horrifying video caught the attention of some women activists on Twitter who supported the victim to report the case to the police. The scorned wife was arrested and arraigned before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates Court on Jan. 9.

According to one of the activists helping the victim, Yvette Raphael (@pozcandy), the case was postponed to Jan. 27 and the perpetrator was granted bail while the husband in question had also opened a case against the victim’s sister for allegedly attacking him.

“We have formed a small task team to assist the young woman. We need a pro bono lawyer and Psychologist. We are meeting the young woman [this] weekend,” the activist appealed.

Many sympathizers on Twitter expressed worry about the trend where women attack other women for the extra-marital activities of their husbands. Some victims are even killed in the process and the men walk free.

Here are some reactions.
