Kinaya Willis, the 25-year-old daughter of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, was arrested late last month in Georgia for allegedly driving with a suspended license.

On August 24, Willis was stopped in Tyrone, Georgia, for using a cellphone while driving. During the stop, officers discovered her license had been revoked, according to an incident report obtained by the Daily Mail.

Willis, a Texas Southern University student, claimed she was using her cellphone “due to her mother calling her about her pregnancy.” She also said she was “unaware” that her license had been revoked since May 13, following a previous suspension.

Per a New York Post report, After her arrest, Fani Willis arrived at the scene to retrieve her daughter’s 2010 Nissan Altima. “Willis’s mother later arrived on scene to take possession of her vehicle,” the report states.

Kinaya Willis was booked at Fayette County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of driving with a revoked or suspended license. She had her mugshot taken before being released. The jail is located about 30 minutes south of her mother’s Atlanta office.

Willis is scheduled to appear for arraignment on October 24 in Tyrone Municipal Court. If she is convicted, she will then face a minimum of two days in jail, a $500 fine, and a six-month extension of her license suspension, according to reports.

The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office did not respond to a request for comment.

Fani Willis’ racketeering case against former President Donald Trump has been paused since June as the Georgia Court of Appeals reviews Trump’s attempt to disqualify her. In March, Trump and eight co-defendants alleged prosecutorial misconduct by Willis, citing her relationship with former special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee had previously ruled that Willis could remain on the case if Wade stepped down, which he did. Trump’s legal team is appealing this decision, seeking to overturn it before the case proceeds to trial. The Georgia Court of Appeals is expected to hear arguments in December, after the November 5 presidential election.

Additionally, Fani Willis has faced multiple investigations by state and federal lawmakers over allegations of misusing taxpayer funds and her professional misconduct and relationship with Wade. These investigations began following her indictment of Trump and 18 others last August.

Trump, 78, and 13 co-defendants have pleaded not guilty to felony charges alleging they violated Georgia’s anti-racketeering law in an effort to overturn the 2020 election results.

Newly released bodycam footage also reveals Fani Willis arrived at the scene of her daughter’s arrest with Nathan Wade, despite their earlier claims of having ended their relationship in the past. The case continues to attract significant public and legal attention, and many will be eyeing how it unfolds in the days to come.
