Dennis Barnes, a senior at the International High School of New Orleans, applied to about 200 colleges and universities and was accepted by 125 of them.
Barnes’ mailbox was overflowing with decision letters and hundreds of scholarship offers. He said he submitted his college applications in August with an aim to raise the bar high for college admissions. Barnes has now set his sights on $10 million in scholarship offers by the end of the month.
In 2019, Normadie Cormier of Lafayette, La. held the world record with $8.7 million in scholarship offers. Barnes has exceeded this record, and he credits his success to hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
Barnes, who has a cumulative grade point average of 4.98, intends to pursue a dual undergraduate degree in computer science and criminal justice. He plans to announce his college decision on May 2.
