Hip-hop legends Salt-N-Pepa make history as first female rappers to have their own action figures

The legendary hip-hop duo Salt-N-Pepa have made history by being the first female MCs to have their own action figures. The pair’s toys were released by the Bay Area design company Super7, however, the bundle does not contain the group’s longstanding DJ, Deidra Roper, nicknamed Spinderella.

The trailblazing stars, Cheryl James, aka Salt, and her fellow spitter Sandra Denton, aka Pepa, wrote on their social media, “In 1987, Salt-N-Pepa became the first female hip-hop act to achieve platinum status and have gone on to become icons of the industry as the First Ladies of Hip-Hop! This Salt-N-Pepa ReAction Figure 2-pack is inspired by the duo’s looks from their first hit music video “Push It” and includes a pair of microphone accessories. Available now at Super7.com!”

“Push It” sold 1.5 million copies worldwide and even garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance, according to HipHopDX.

As per The Source, Salt-N-Pepa have paved the road for future generations of female artists to assert their legitimate position in the industry by being the first female rapper with action figures, thus breaking new ground.

Previously, Super7 perpetuated the legacies of other hip-hop artists such as OutKast, Run-DMC, and the Beastie Boys through similar releases.

Super7 has also previously paid tribute to solo artists such as MF DOOM, RZA, Ghostface Killah, Notorious B.I.G., and KRS-One through special toys.
