Travis Hunter is a college football player who plays for the Colorado Buffaloes. Even before he goes professional, the wide receiver is making impactful financial decisions with his latest name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal.
He will now be working with the finance platform NerdWallet, making him the first college football player to sign with the platform, which assists consumers compare and find top financial products.
He joins USC superstar basketball player JuJu Watkins and former Kentucky freshman sensation Rob Dillingham – now of the Minnesota Timberwolves – on NerdWallet’s NIL roster, according to NIL Daily.
As part of the deal, Hunter was given three smart money options and he eventually chose to put 20% of the money earned into a savings account after completing a self-evaluation of his finances.
“Preparation is the key to success both on and off the field, and I’m excited to plan for a strong financial future with the help of NerdWallet,” Hunter said. “The opportunity to earn and be smarter with managing my NIL money in the right bank account while playing football was too good to pass up.”
Aside from his deal with NerdWallet, he has deals with J5 Caffe, a Black-owned coffee shop.
“J5 Caffe’s partnership with Hunter was paramount because both express the mission of making a difference in HBCU colleges,” the company said, per Clarion-Ledger. “But more importantly the Black community. J5 Caffe, is one of many companies owned by parent company, J5 Solutions. Like Hunter, J5 Solutions is dedicated to raising awareness and the importance of supporting HBCUs across the nation.”
Hunter also has a deal with Michael Strahan’s skin care and was its first ambassador. His other deals are with United Airlines, JLab, Celsius, Rock ‘Em Socks, EA Sports, and Leaf Trading Cards.
