Actor Cuba Gooding Jr. recently touched on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking trial, saying that he’s praying for the embattled music executive as well as the victims involved in the high-profile case.
Gooding, 57, in an interview with TMZ at LAX on Wednesday admitted there was no way he could avoid following the trial when he was asked if he was keeping up with it.
“It’s a lot of information. I mean how can you not keep up with it?…It’s on your TV, you see it everywhere,” the Boyz n the Hood star said, adding that he was also praying for Combs.
“Like I said, I pray for the brother, and I pray for the victims, and I pray for Cassie and her family,” he continued. “That’s all I can do from a bystander’s point of view.”
Asked if he felt any sympathy for Combs, Gooding answered in the affirmative, though he admitted it was difficult. He then went ahead to quote a bible phrase to buttress his stance.
“You know, it’s hard to, but yeah, I feel sympathy,” the 57-year-old stated. “They say, he without sin, cast the first stone. I don’t judge anybody.”
Gooding also reflected on how celebrity life in Hollywood has evolved as fans have now been exposed to the secrets of some of their favorite stars.
Prior to his arrest and prosecution, Combs’ former employee, Rodney Jones, filed a sexual assault lawsuit against the Bad Boy Records founder and Gooding, TMZ reported. Jones, who claimed he met Gooding on Comb’s yacht, accused the actor of “touching, groping, and fondling Mr. Jones’s legs, his upper inner thighs near his groin, the small of his back near his buttocks and his shoulders.”
Gooding, however, denied those allegations and said he and Combs don’t even have a close relationship. A judge ultimately dismissed the lawsuit because Gooding and Combs’ son Justin had not been served the documents.
Combs’ trial was paused on Wednesday after a juror experienced vertigo. Proceedings are expected to resume on Friday as Thursday is Juneteenth, which is a federal holiday.
