Cherice Williams is the CEO and founder of Blaq Luxury Hair, a multi-million dollar company she founded to provide solutions to people having challenges with hair growth. The hair products are made with eco-friendly ingredients to enhance the quality and appearance of one’s hair.
Blaq Luxury Hair was started out of Williams’ own struggle with hair loss. A Jamaican immigrant, Williams moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue her dream of becoming a financial analyst on Wall Street while studying at the University of the West Indies. She also worked as a housekeeper and a waitress when she arrived in the states.
However, she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormone disorder which eventually affected her hair. She started having dry, brittle, damaged hair and hair loss in 2018. She tried multiple products but none was effective. This led her to create her own solution and that was how Blaq Luxury Hair was born.
She made the product targeting those who struggle with Alopecia, Scalp Eczema and dandruff, according to The Garnette Report. Her first and most popular product called Mega Gro Hair Serum helps restore edges and other areas of hair that are distressed while restoring moisture to cuticles.
When Williams started Blaq Luxury Hair, her first sale came one week after the launch of her website. At the time, her products were not labeled. Nonetheless, after the first purchase came through, she carefully packaged the product and included a note for usage.
Upon receipt, the person ordered another bottle, followed by two more sales. Williams then noticed that there could be a possible market for her product. With no budget support, she started asking for free shoutouts in exchange for products from small pages where she would pick up one or two sales or sometimes none, her website says.
She even reached out to a number of blogs for promo but the response was not as encouraging as she expected. She started saving the tips she got from customers from her job as a waitress towards the promotion and in some months she was able to raise some $2000 to advertise with a blog site. After the ad was posted, her brand began to evolve. She has since moved from her living room to operating outside of her own warehouse.
Since it was launched, Blaq Luxury Hair products have recorded millions in sales. The brand also now makes over 20 different products, including shampoo, conditioners, co-washes, beard products, styling products, and so on.
Williams’ goal is to continue to grow and expand the brand while maintaining the vision of helping as many to improve the health of their hair, she said.
