A woman in Ghana who has been married for 15 years without children has finally given birth to quadruplets, two females and two males, GBC News reports.

Joana Antwi and her husband, a 66-year-old pensioner named Peter Afriyie Kwarteng, said it’s been difficult for them during the multiple years of childlessness. They had a child after they got married but the child did not survive. The couple then had to wait for nearly 13 more years to be able to have their own children.

Antwi, who is an orderly at a health center in the town of Abofour in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, told GBC News that for a greater part of the gestation, she was detected through a scan to be carrying triplets. Later, doctors found out that she carried quadruplets.

Antwi then gave birth to pre-term babies, two boys and two girls through a Caesarian Section at age 46. She and her husband, a retired worker of the Railways Corporation, said they thank God for giving them their own children. However, they are worried about how to care for the babies.

It’s been tough taking care of themselves in the last 15 years, and with four babies now, they fear things might get worse. The couple currently live in a single room with their babies and they are facing eviction. They are therefore calling on individuals and philanthropic organizations to come to their aid.

Recently, a humanitarian group alongside some individuals presented assorted items made up of baby foods, diapers, playing toys, rice and tomato puree and cooking oil in addition to cash to the couple, according to GBC News. Antwi and her husband were grateful and hoped that others will also come and support them and their children.
