Most cultures in Madagascar have still maintained their traditional Lamba dress code. It is mostly worn by elderly men and women who wear it over their western clothing.

It has many different uses besides wearing, such as protection from the sun, protection from the wind or dust, a blanket, carrying a child, a covering when bathing or going swimming.
