A 17-year-old girl, who was shot in the face during a gang-related shooting in the Bronx, succumbed to her injuries two weeks after the incident.
Per the New York Post, the August 23 shootings occurred at a basketball tournament at Haffen Park in the Bronx. The shootings also claimed the life of a 32-year-old man, while three other people were injured.
The second victim to die from the shootings was identified as Anthonaya Campbell, 17, and she succumbed to her injuries on Monday. Campbell was described as an innocent victim.

Prior to her death, Campbell was said to be in a critical condition at the Jacobi Hospital. “This is a very devastating moment! This young girl[‘s] life mattered and she should be here still with us! Her life was sadly taking [sic] away from us due to another senseless shooting,” the deceased victim’s friend, Boyde Yeremiyah, shared on Facebook.
“We are praying for the mother and the rest of her family who is also hurt by this terrible event! This senseless shooting has to stop not only in the Bronx! Not only in our communities, not only in New York, but all over the world.”
Campbell’s mother, Jennifer Talbot, initially told the New York Post that her daughter had gone to the city to visit friends at the time she got caught in the gunfire.
“She’s a joyful person,” said Talbot. “When you look at her, you just smile. She loves everybody. She greets everybody. She reaches out to everybody. She has an uncontrollable passion for just helping other people.”
The NYPD said they’re investigating Campbell’s shooting death as murder. Authorities ultimately arrested four suspects in connection with the fatal incident.
Two of the suspects were identified as Daeven Reyes, 20, and Robert Royal, 25. The other two male suspects are aged 17 and 16. All four suspects have been charged with murder, four counts of attempted murder, gang assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Following Campbell’s demise, authorities are expected to upgrade the attempted murder counts to an additional murder count, per the New York Post.
