In 2020, Tyler Perry was officially recognized as a billionaire by Forbes. He was captured into the Forbes billionaire list with a net worth of $1 billion. At the time, Forbes gave a breakdown of his Forbes as $300 million in cash and investments, $320 million from his catalog of movies, shows, plays, etc, $280 million for his 330-acre Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, $60 million for his BET+ equity stake and $40 million in homes and toys.
Perry has succeeded in creating movies and plays that resonate with mostly black audiences. His “Madea” character and franchise have been one of the most financially rewarding artistic imaginations in American art history. His rise to success is also a story worth telling as he grew up in a poor home and had an abusive father. At a point, Perry had to make a home in his car.
The movie mogul is building a sprawling mega-mansion in Atlanta befitting of his status as a billionaire. His new home is 2,100 acres 8 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms 40,000 square ft, and costs a whopping $100mil+ dollars. It is being built near Perry’s studio in Georgia.
Perry has a history of building sprawling mansions. Back in 2007, Tyler built another 30,000+ square foot Georgia home situated on land he bought for $9 million. He sold it for $17.5 million in 2016. In 2004, he custom built his Beverly Hills mansion from scratch after buying the 22 acres of land it is on for $4.3 million. Besides building, he also has an impressive record of flipping homes. In 2018, he sold a mansion in Beverly Hills to Happy singer Pharrell Williams for $15.6 million.
Perry also has achievements like being the first African American to independently own a studio. He started Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, which is one of the most famous production locations for black audiences.
